I'm very disappointed in the first 100 - 130 pages. Then it started to get better.

Bear in mind, I write this as a conservative-minded individual (see my other reviews as proof of my bona fides). Nonetheless, it must be acknowledged that AMERICA BY HEART is nothing less than a mockery of a book, unworthy of both one's time and money. Palin believes her independent nature is a trait of Alaskans, whom she claims often feel as though Washington was still treating as backwards gold prospectors who were not from a state on equal footing with the other 49, but from a territory that could be manipulated at federal will. I was not moved by America by Heart in the same way I was by Palin's earlier memoir, Going Rogue: An American Life. Let's say there is something wrong with a car, do we look try to see what the problem with the car is while we are trying to use it for transportation or after it went through a compactor? I don't understand conservatives (who never fail to dissent from a war they disagree with) who think that our freedoms of speech really shouldn't apply when at war. If anyone can turn our country around and return us to the economic and moral advantages we enjoyed during the Reagan era, it's probably Sarah Palin. I truly believe God is shining a light on her, and has given her a gift, one she thankfully hasn't rejected.

America will be the winner if she does so! Bought it for my 11-year old daughter and she is really enjoying the book, but then again, she loves Sarah Palin. And, of course, there was the great Red Scare led by Senator Joseph McCarthy which had Americans looking for Communists behind every hedge and turning in friends and co-workers as "fellow-travelers." Lives of good people were ruined by McCarthy's crazed witch hunt.

I agree with Mrs Palin that common sense is something we have unfortunately lost in most politicians. And when you write your review, try and review the text, not your personal political opinion of the author. So, every other time government could be completely wrong in what it's doing but when it declares war, it is all wise? Palin also believes that troops are fighting for the freedom of critics to protest. Instead, Sarah ought to take a look at a series of films directed, again, by Frank Capra, called Why We Fight. These are WWII films directed against the Nazi war machine.
