Organization is the first part of packing a self storage locker. To be properly organized, a person should make a list of all property they will be storing and then place those things in boxes. When they are filling the unit, they need to begin by placing their larger objects in the back. If they have any belongings which will be needed, they should go in the front area for easy access. The logistics involved require some thinking ahead so that the lockers will have its space used with efficiency.

Before someone heads off to their storage unit, they should first make a list of what they will be storing. This will make it easier to remember what they have put in the unit. It will also allow them to plan how to fill the space in the most efficient way.

After creating a list of belongings, people should place them inside boxes. When possible, they should get boxes of identical size. This sameness of size will make it easier to stack and fill every open area in the unit.

When it is time to fill the unit, begin with placing the bigger objects like furniture against the back wall. Stand box-springs and mattresses up against the wall so that they are flat. The furniture should be stacked with the tops of chairs facing each other to conserve space. Everything should be stacked to the ceiling.

Once all of the furniture is stacked, begin putting boxes on top of it. Place the ones which are the heaviest at the bottom with lighter boxes on top. This prevents the possibility of things being crushed.

Always keep in mind how a locker is being filled when moving one's property inside. The stacking of boxes should look like a puzzle that is being made. Lay them on the ground from wall to wall. When one row has been put down, place a second row on top of it. A wall will start to be formed. As this wall gets high, the person doing the stacking will want to get a ladder to reach the top. If the area at the top is too small for a box, then pillows and other soft objects should go there.

People may choose to store their outdoor equipment inside a storage unit. It this is the case, there are a few things to think about. Any power equipment like lawnmowers should have all of their fluids drained. Leaving them could put off fumes which are unhealthy and potentially a fire hazard. Smaller hand tools should go inside of a trash can. Things like shovels and rakes need to be tied together so that they do not get scattered.

When someone needs a place to keep their belongings, a self storage locker can be very convenient. But, without planning ahead, they could wind up wasting space and time. They should take some time before they begin the process so that the work goes easier and their possessions are not damaged.
