Kindle WiFi vs 3G

There has been a great debate ever since the launch of the third generation of Kindles, also known as the Kindle 3, about which model is better - the Kindle WiFi vs 3G.

If you are not aware, the Kindle is Amazon.com's eReader device. It is designed to make reading on the device as much like reading an actual printed book as possible.

Each device is capable of storing up to 3500 books in its 4 gigabyte memory. Kindle eBooks are primarily available from the Amazon.com website which sells thousands of books in many different subjects and genres and by a host of different authors. This I enough books to keep even the most avid bookworm happy.

As seen thus far, both versions are extremely alike. However, the main difference between them is at the crux of the matter. This difference is the methods that each use to connect to the internet. This is an important function of the Kindle, as by connecting to the internet from your device, you are thus able to purchase new books from the Amazon website at any time.

If you have regular access to a wireless network connection at home or at work, you may wish to look at the Kindle WiFi as this is the only method of internet connectivity this device uses. It is important that you use a secured network, somewhere that you trust, as buying books from the Kindle store is a financial transaction, and your details can be tracked on an unsecured connection.

The Kindle 3G on the other hand also uses a wireless network to connect to the internet, but it has a second weapon in its arsenal. It is also capable of accessing the internet using the cellular 3G internet connection at absolutely no monthly cost. If you do not have access to a secure wireless network connection, this is the device for you. You may also wish to choose this device if you go travelling a lot and enjoy reading while you travel as many countries now have a 3G network in place.
