Automobiles of the future:Hybrid Alternative Fuel Cars

By Jonah Jenniges

A common topic of discussion will continue to be alternative fuel cars, as long as gas prices keep going up and up. Most of the alternative fuel cars currently available are hybrid cars, but there are others that include ethanol based fuel that is made from corn. Cars and trucks that run on used cooking oil, also referred to as bio-diesel, are also becoming popular.

Given that hybrid cars are trying to find better gas mileage by combining electric power with a fuel source, that makes them alternative fuel cars. Though alternative fuel cars have been around since the beginning, they never became popular because the gas-powered cars always ran better, faster and cheaper. Early hybrid cars probably would top out at 25 miles an hour and work for about 10 minutes. Due to pollution and the persistent rising cost of fuel, the automotive industry has been paying out lots of money into alternative fuel vehicles.

Though one would assume the technology would be the same, there are various types of hybrid cars. The electric powered portion of certain hybrid alternative fuel cars is used to provide an extra boost to the car's engine when starting the car or when its running. Other hybrid cars use electrical energy to run the car in stop and go traffic. One of several complications with the hybrids is the minimal power offered, but the newer hybrid vehicles are offering more power with better gas mileage. With the developments in technology, the power should continue to improve, as well as the savings in fuel.

The auto industry would like to manufacture better hybrid alternative fuel cars, so they focus largely on being able to maintain power, and work on increasing gas mileage at the same time. Hybrids are likewise getting popular among truck owners. There is no decrease of power with the hybrids, and the gas mileage is somewhat higher, and as a bonus, there is an electrical power source that can run power tools from the truck. It is hard to assume what will happen with the fuel industry, or the future of hybrid alternative fuel cars, but time will tell. It's quite possible that the need for regular gasoline will decrease in favor of cleaner alternative fuels. With all the advancement in hybrid alternative fuel cars they're going to become more popular with the people.

These kinds of cars will continue to boost in power and gas mileage while reducing the amount of pollutants in the air. There's a demand for cars using alternative fuels, but their output hasn't caught up with the common vehicles, and that is why prices haven't come down. The cost of these alternative fuel cars starts around $20,000, but the US government offers a tax incentive to the buyers, and they are also investing money into alternative fuel cars.
