Beauty Of Tanned Skin - What Is The Cost?

By Jaime Charlies

Tanned skin is loved by most of society, well at least that is what the media has depicted to us. Who will say that he/she does not like tanned skin? What about the cost of getting tanned skin? I am not talking in term of dollars, but life. It is death due to skin cancer.

But there are real dangers to tanning. Skin cancer is one of the most serious risks of tanning. Even when you use tanning oils, your skin is not protected from the harmful ultraviolet, or UV, rays. Exposure to these rays in sunlight leads to radiation damage and skin cancer. There are many ideas about tanning that people believe and think that they are safe. Let us talk about them.

You can develop skin cancer on any part of your skin. Remember especially to protect the delicate skin on your face, ears, and nose, which are at risk of overexposure to sun. Your hands, feet and shoulders are also areas that are at the highest risk, and these areas are often forgotten when applying sunscreen. If there are parts of your back you cannot reach, cover up with a beach wrap or shirt, or ask someone to help you apply sunscreen to those areas. Remember to also re-apply sunscreen and or airbrush tans periodically, as it can rub or wash off. Many sunscreens have an SPF number that will let you know how much protection they can give you.

When you burn your skin in the sun, it is damaged. Washing it off with water or going for a swim is not going to reverse that damage. In fact, when you are swimming, UV rays reflect off of the water, putting you at higher risk for radiation and burning. Being more aware of the sun exposure you are getting can help you take the right steps to protect yourself. Keep track of how much time you are spending in the sun. A little sun is acceptable and can give you vitamin D, which is a benefit to your body, but too much sun can cause serious issues for you.

Skin that is tanned is in danger. Protect your life by avoiding all types of tanning. Use self tanning cosmetics to get artificial color if you want, but don't damage your skin with tan. Tanning beds, sun lamps and sun all are bad for skin.
