How To Get Started with an Effective Site Navigation Approach

By Patrick Lemaire

If you are new to web business, then you need to learn about effective navigation for your site before you take the plunge. Regardless of what you need for your site or navigation, it just has to be right for your application no matter what you are doing. This article is ideally for those who are new to IM, and you can start working on your knowledge base with the following excellent tips.

If your website is too big or has many different pages then make sure you've got a handy search box in the corner. You won't believe how much difference having a simple search box can make because people that are too lazy to look around will most definitely want to search throughout your site to get what they want. Besides that, having a search function makes your website more user friendly and gives you a better standing with your regular visitors. Implementing this on your site is really very simple to do, so there is no excuse for not having one.

Never neglect visitor convenience; for example the placement of additional or even redundant links at the end of content. It is a very simple matter to do, and there is no real reason for not doing it in our minds. We know for a fact that at least a link to auto-scroll to the top will definitely be used.

You do want to have a site map page for any type of site, even though making them for static non-blog sites can be a little bit of a hassle. We think that not many people use them, but of course we could be wrong - but search engines definitely use them.

Obviously everybody knows that navigation is important even if we still see sites with poor nav. The consequences of not paying enough attention to your navigation are legendary, we think. Do not forget to take action on this because there are lots of people who will not do that even though it will help them.
